Grand reopening of TOYO KITCHEN STYLE Nagoya
Birth of an interior showroom with “eco” design
The Nagoya Head office showroom of Toyo Kitchen & Living, which proposes new lifestyles themed on “Living in your kitchen,” has been fully renovated for a grand reopening. The design plan is by Mr. Yukio Hashimoto, a world-famous designer from Aichi Prefecture. The facade expresses environmental recycling. Displayed on the two floors, totaling approximately 1,000 m2 of space, are 27 kitchen sets, as well as a large number of additional interior items by global brands. The interior showroom enables visitors to grasp the interior image first-hand by actually putting them in the living-dining-kitchen space, which constitutes the core part of most residential homes. The rebirth of TOYO KITCHEN STYLE Nagoya is the first project in Nagoya for Mr. Hashimoto.
Design concept of Mr. Hashimoto
The facade of the Toyo Kitchen & Living Head office reuses scrap stainless steel generated from kitchen manufacturing. Stainless steel is a symbolic material for the brand of Toyo Kitchen & Living. Thus, using scraps of such material sends messages of eco-friendliness and sustainability. Usually, recycled materials and products do not retain their form, but my wish was to use the scraps as they are and still give the facade universal beauty. The bottom of the facade is equipped with indirect lighting that shines light onto the panel of scraps of various shapes and sizes carefully hand-placed by craftsmen, representing the accumulated layers of technology, memories and hospitality. The walls around the entrance are beautifully decorated with mosaic tiles, and the wooden deck floor gives a sense of natural warmth. This wooden deck is a terrace that is open for everyone to enjoy.
The new Toyo Kitchen & Living aims to create an enriched environment that connects people with people.

■Environmentally friendly exterior reusing scrap stainless steel
The environmentally friendly design using scrap pieces of stainless steel *Note 1 on the exterior is by interior designer Mr. Yukio Hashimoto. Architecture embodying “ecology” will become a new member of Higashiyama-dori, an arterial road running east and west within Nagoya City. Spotlighting scrap stainless steel, generated when manufacturing Toyo Kitchen & Living products, the facade boldly presents them on its exterior with random placement. Past the wooden deck with rich greenery, the entrance of the building provides two-way access from the road and the parking lot, creating natural and comfortable flow lines.
*Note 1:
Toyo Kitchen & Living sorts and reuses scrap stainless steel generated during manufacturing to increase its stainless steel recycling rate.
The stainless steel scrap pieces generated during manufacturing are sorted carefully by shape and type, and are recycled.
Stainless steel scrap pieces are used on the wall with the company logo. The wall with a curved design is lit at night for a dramatic effect.
■A showroom where visitors can discover their ideal home interior
It has been 10 years since 2001, when the company changed its name to Toyo Kitchen & Living. In 2011, a commemorative year, TOYO KITCHEN STYLE Nagoya is born again. Toyo Kitchen & Living, which has been exploring the relationship between kitchen and interior to propose new styles, is tapping into their abundant know-how to design an exhibition centered on kitchens, with total coordination using furniture, lighting and Venetian mosaics. A new type of interior showroom that enables visitors to actually put themselves in the coordinated space, making it easier for them to envision the interior and discover their favorite image.
■Presentation service by full-time staff
Instead of just filling a space, interior planning is about considering and imagining “what kind of space would I like to live in?” Toyo Kitchen & Living creates 3D colored perspective drawings to confirm the three-dimensional completion image, as well as provides estimates. We can propose a plan that matches the lifestyle of the residents.
■Development as an interior shop
Toyo Kitchen & Living collects and sells outstanding interior goods from all over the world in order to enable a comprehensive interior proposal. Established & Sons of England, BD Barcelona Design of Spain, and Kartell of Italy are only a few of the dozen or so interior manufacturers we carry.
